"Ron Paul emerged from last week's GOP debate as completely victorious according to every available benchmark and yet there is still a deliberate ploy to push the Texas Congressman to the sidelines on behalf of a terrified corporate media."

So says Paul Watson of Prison Planet, in a recent Jones Report. Ever heard of Ron Paul? Here's me guessing you haven't. Ever heard of Rudolph Giuliani? Of course you have. Well, let's hear about Ron Paul.

He's in Congress for his 10th term. Wikipedia has this to say:

Paul advocates the limited role of government, low taxes, free markets, and a return to monetary policies based on commodity-backed currency. He has earned the nickname "Dr. No" for voting against any bill he believes violates the Constitution. In the words of former Treasury Secretary William Simon, Paul is the "one exception to the Gang of 535" on Capitol Hill. He has never voted to raise taxes or congressional pay. He has always voted against the USA PATRIOT Act, the Military Commissions Act of 2006, and the Iraq War.


I'm not generally a fan of libertarians. They like to take functions of society out democratic control by privatising them, and plus "libertarian" was totally our word first. But it sure is interesting listening to him in the debate.

Are you nuts!?!

Liberals/Socialists are the enemy of us libertarians. You all are the exact opposite of libertarians. You support Fascism in all aspects: Taking away our gun rights, cracking down on our politically incorrect free speech, forcing us to wear seat belts in our cars, and taxing us to high heaven.

Don't even think for a moment that you have anything in common with us libertarians.

And for the record, Ron Paul is no longer a real libertarian. He used to be. But now he embraces a soft on Islamo-Fascism line that is grossly out of step with libertarian beliefs.

Eric,

Just as you are using the American bastardisation of the term "libertarian" (which originally meant anarchist, not minarchist), you are using the American bastardisation of the term "liberal". This probably goes some way to explaining your other misunderstandings.

Socialism is the opposite (or an alternative to) capitalism. It is an economic stance, rather than a political one.

Fascism is defined in the Oxford Dictionary as "an authoritarian and nationalistic right-wing system of government". That would make fascism the opposite of a libertarian, anti-flag left-wing system with no government" (anarchism).

Now, one of your blogs has a photo of a woman painting a national flag on a horse (presumably this is not placed there as a joke). Your other blog currently features a post about how a rodeo makes you proud to be an American. Again, presumably not a joke. That would be nationalistic pride.

I also assume you advocate authoritarian enforcement of capitalist property rights, consider yourself right-wing, and believe that some small government should exist. I could be wrong on any of those points, but if even a few are accurate, your position is far closer to actual fascism than mine - if that is a concern.
